We're celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Women's Entrepreneurship Day with our Top 10 List of women-owned brands for 2024. There are two brands or creators for each of our five categories: fashion, beauty, wellness, food & drink and culture. These brands received the most engagement from you, our readers. Here's our Top 10 and a little reminder about why we love each of them so much:
Biko: We love Biko for its stackable statement jewellery, 40% of which is made from recycled materials and components. Founder Corrine Anestopoulos is a huge supporter of fellow women entrepreneurs and charitable causes such as Rethink Breast Cancer and Second Harvest.
TLINE: A one-stop shop for the perfect capsule wardrobe with its signature “perfect” shirt at the core (we get more comments on our “perfect shirt” story than any other fashion story). Classically stylish co-Founders Britt Barkwell and Alia Bissett come to the entrepreneurial world with fashion street cred via Holt Renfrew.
Ember Wellness: The gua sha shaped Sculpt & Glow waterless serum bar is a must have from Ember’s minimalist all-natural skin care line. Founder Amanda Schuler brings deep entrepreneurial experience having launched and grown her furniture brand Gus Modern over the last 20 years.
Sahajan: One of our first features was a reader reco that is on a trajectory to greatness. Sahajan products are formulated with the healing Ayurvedic ingredients Founder Lisa Mattam grew up with. Her products are now available at some Sephora locations in addition to the Detox Market.
The Livy Method: When we shared the subscriber endorsed weight loss method created by Gina Livy, we had no idea the response would be so profound. Livy is a caring, inclusive and driven founder with an aura that embraces one and all and a weight loss formula that works.
Hammam Spa: When Celine Tadrissi opened Toronto’s Hammam Spa nearly 20 years ago, self care wasn’t really a thing. Her Turkish Bath inspired spa has steadily become a wellness routine for women and men alike.
Rosen’s Buns: Amy Rosen’s cinnamon bun journey is well documented on social media. Each twist and turn (including a Dragon’s Den appearance) told in her self-deprecating way. Today her bake-your-own buns are available at Whole Foods.
Kanel Spices: Truffle Salt? Yes please! Kim Wiseman runs her all-female salt and spice mix business out of Montreal with unique flavours and combinations inspiring chefs and home cooks alike.
Janna Watson: We found Janna Watson’s art in a neighbour’s home and were instantly captivated. Her abstract works are full of motion, drama and colour.
Erin Rothstein: Erin Rothstein paints hyperreal food and everyday items that are beautifully imperfect. It’s hard to imagine they were created with paint and brush.
